David signed for Sunderland in summer 2012 after leaving Darlington.
He is a boyhood Sunderland fan who came through Darlington’s youth system.
The left back worked under Craig Liddle at the Northern Echo Arena and made six first-team appearances for the Quakers in 2011-12 prior to the club folding.
He initially came to the Stadium of Light on trial and impressed enough to be handed a full professional contract.
