Louis Laing

Louis Laing

Louis is a stylish, ball-playing centre back.

Tall, rangy and mobile, he reads the game well and is effective in possession.

Louis made 43 appearances over two years with the under-18s as well as collecting England honours at under-19 level at the start of the 2011-12 season.

Louis broke into the reserves while still a scholar, playing 14 games for the second string in 2010-11.

He was rewarded with a first-team debut as a substitute against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Stadium of Light in May 2011.

Louis featured regularly for the reserves over the first half of the 2011-12 season and headed out on loan to Wycombe Wanderers in mid-January 2012.

The initial month-long arrangement was quickly extended, and Louis played 11 games in all for the League One club before returning to Wearside with a host of valuable experience under his belt.

Injuries limited Laing to just five under-21 appearances last season.
