General Manager – Catering & Events

Full Time (40 hours)

 

Sunderland AFC are looking to recruit a General Manager to lead the Catering & Events team within The Stadium of Light. This exciting opportunity is suitable for an experienced and dynamic leader, with strong organisation skills and an eye for detail. The General Manager will work within the Events domain to deliver both Matchday Hospitality and Stadium events to a high standard, instill continuous improvement in processes and will be responsible for leading a team of up to 200 staff. The ideal candidate will have a background in the Hospitality industry and be confident working in a high-volume environment, usually in excess of 2,500 guests.

 

Core Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Responsibility for the daily operation of Sunderland AFC Catering and Events portfolio, clearly defining, assigning, and delegating responsibility and authority for the operation of the various departments.
  • To provide strategic planning and goal setting to achieve continuous improvements in client service, product quality, financial performance and employee growth and development.
  • To ensure all Events are staffed to the required level to uphold best-in-class service delivery whilst remaining cost-effective.
  • To ensure the strict control of GP’s, wages, wastage and stock control across the catering business.
  • To ensure all purchases are made within policy and budget.
  • To act as the key senior link to all food and beverage suppliers and ensure Sunderland AFC’s interests and standards are always protected.
  • To support in the Management of a portfolio of key external clients and act as a senior point of contact for all their needs from the Club and the venue.
  • To work alongside the match day commercial team as required, acting as the key link for all build up and closedown from match day operation.
  • To ensure all finance and processing systems are followed and monitored as per company procedures.
  • To provide reports in a timely manner for Senior management as required.
  • To ensure the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality service standards/systems and that all catering services exceed customer expectations.

  • To assist in continually working towards the Club’s corporate strategic goals and to also ensure all staff are working to the club Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Full accountability for all Health and Safety documentation, training, and processes, ensuring appropriate and safe behaviour of all employees.
  • Full accountability for all implementation and management of HACCP controls.

 

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and responsibility for the smooth and effective running of the Catering & Events domain on all home match days and events.
  • Lead the Executive Head Chef in developing menus that are both customer focused and cost effective.
  • To ensure effective communication channels are achieved and maintained between staff and Management and to promote a highly motivated team environment.
  • To actively promote a good working atmosphere, effectively motivating and empowering the Catering and Events Management team.
  • To liaise with the Event sales teams as required and work with the Events Sales Manager to develop sales strategy for all conferences and events.
  • To oversee permanent and casual staffing matters, including the recruitment, induction, training, retention, welfare, and safeguarding of staff.
  • Liaise with the Major Events & Project Lead to ensure the effective running of the Catering & Events domain during major events and concerts.
  • Liaise with and maintain good working relationships with all suppliers and relevant stakeholders.

 

The position is full time (40 hours per week), the availability to work flexible is essential to suit business needs. Additionally, you are required to work all home fixtures and special events unless previously agreed with your manager.
