Preview: 23s set to take on Wolves

Sunderland Under-23s return to Eppleton as they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-23s in the Premier League 2 Division 2 (KO 7pm).

The young Lads will be looking to bounce back after last week’s late 3-2 defeat against Middlesbrough – a Calum Kavanagh hat-trick cancelling out goals from Benji Kimpioka and Arbenit Xhemajli.

Mike Dodds and Michael Proctor’s side are sitting one place above Wolves, with both sides on 19 points from 15 games, with Sunderland ahead due to a superior goal difference.

Wolves drew in their last league encounter as they played out a 1-1 draw with Burnley at home.

The away side’s last win in the league came away at Birmingham in November, with the West Midlands side claiming five points from their last five games.

Another young side is expected for the contest as a number of players continue to earn vital experience out on loan – U18 scholars such as Caden Kelly, Zak Johnson and Henry Fieldson may well feature once more.

The Black Cats triumphed in the reverse fixture against Wolves earlier in the season, after a Will Harris hat-trick earned the three points in KIdderminster.

Coverage of the match at Eppleton will be available via the club’s official Twitter account @SunderlandAFC.
