Preview: U18s travel to Manchester City

Sunderland Under-18s are back on the road this Friday with a trip to Manchester City in the U18 Premier League (12.30 KO).

 

Opposition

 

Manchester City Under-18s are currently third in the division having played eight, won six, drawn one and lost one.

 

The Citizens most recently beat Liverpool 3-0 at the start of the month with goals from Divine Mukasa and a double from Alfie Harrison.

 

Matty Warhurst leads the goalscoring ranks with seven in six appearances.

 

Ben Wilkinson took charge as Lead Coach in the summer of 2021 overseeing the Premier League Cup victory in 2022.

 

Under Wilkinson’s leadership, City became the first Under-18 team to win three consecutive Premier League north and national titles. 

 

The 36-year-old called time on his playing career in 2013 after spells with Hull City, York City and Boston United.

 

The former midfielder started his coaching journey with Sheffield Wednesday and went on to join Manchester City in 2018 after five years at Hillsborough.

 

The Black Cats

 

The Lads are looking for back-to-back wins following a 3-0 win in the Premier Cup against Stoke City.

 

Goals from Tommy Watson, Tom Lavery and Josh Robertson sealed victory in Group A.

 

U18 Premier League

 

Manchester United currently lead the way in the division having played nine and won nine. Liverpool and Manchester City make-up the top three.

 

The Black Cats have an opportunity to leapfrog Stoke City into 10th with a win on Friday afternoon.

 

Everton currently sit bottom of the division with one win from their opening fixtures.
