Academy: Adam Richardson pens new contract

Sunderland AFC are pleased to announce that Adam Richardson has signed a new contract with the Club.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper has penned a three-year deal, extending his stay on Wearside until summer 2026.

Richardson has made six Premier League 2 appearances this season, as well as spending time on loan at Vanarama National League North side Guiseley AFC.

Standing at 6ft6, the England youth international becomes the latest goalkeeper to progress through the Club’s Academy system, following in the footsteps of current number one Anthony Patterson.

After putting pen to paper, Richardson said: “I’m delighted to sign this new contract with the Club I’ve been at since the age of eight. The Club have a proven track record of producing top-class goalkeepers and this is the perfect place for me to develop. I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds.”

Academy Manager Robin Nicholls added: “We are delighted that Adam will extend his time with the Club for another three years. Adam has made excellent progress over a number of seasons, and we are excited to continue the journey with him. We firmly believe that we have the right support in place to ensure that he reaches his potential."
