Preview: Under-21s travel to Blackburn Rovers

Sunderland Under-21s face their final league game of the season with a trip to Blackburn Rovers on Sunday (1pm).

Opposition

Blackburn Rovers are currently 12th in the Premier League 2 having won eight, lost eight and drawn three from 19.

Rovers are currently unbeaten in their last four, winning three. Harrison Wood and Junior Nsangou were on the scoresheet as the Lancashire side most recently drew 2-2 against Arsenal.

The U21 side sre currently led by Mike Sheron.

The former striker made over 450 senior career appearances for the likes of Manchester City, Norwich and Stoke.

Sheron started his coaching career with Manchester City before moving on to Bury where he served as youth team manager. Spells at Oldham, Rotherham and Liverpool followed before being appointed within the Blackburn academy. 

Zak Gilsenan is the club's leading goalscorer this season with seven goals from nine. He is closely followed behind by Semir Telalovic who has five in four.

Premier League 2

Those sides that finish in the top 16 will qualify for the PL2 play-offs. Those sides that also finish in the top 12, will qualify for next season's International Cup.

The Black Cats currently sit in eighth with play-offs confirmed. Victory on Sunday will seal a place in the cup.

Tottenham Hotspur sit top of the table with with one defeat this campaign. West Ham, Fulham and Chelsea make up the top four.

Derby County are currently bottom with Newcastle and West Brom also in the bottom three.
