Foundation of Light is set to launch new Walking Football sessions at the Beacon of Light later this month.
Open to all ages and abilities, Walking Football is a slower version of the beautiful game and ideal for those who want to get more exercise, improve their fitness or meet new people.
As the name suggests, Walking Football carries all the same rules as every day football except you can’t pick up too much speed. It provides a sociable, fun and safe environment for those looking to be a little more active in their spare time.
Ken Riley, Sport Development Officer at Foundation of Light, said: "Walking Football offers a wide range of benefits for a variety of people.
"Whether you're looking to keep active, stay fit, or widen your circle of friends, Walking Football offers the perfect opportunity to do just that."
Research shows that there are many psychological and mental health advantages to playing walking football – namely high levels of personal reward and satisfaction with reduced levels of stress and exertion while playing, despite working physically hard.
As well as being able to increase fitness levels, emotional health gets a great boost too for a person involved in Walking Football, not least self-confidence and self-esteem.
Sessions will take place on the Beacon of Light's 3G outdoor pitches starting on Thursday 25th October (11am-12pm) and delivered by Foundation of Light's expert coaches.
The first session is FREE for new players (then costing just £2.50 each week) and there is no need to pre-book, simply TURN UP AND PLAY.
