Phillips back as a fan: 'I'm looking forward to being there on Friday'

Kevin Phillips will be backing the Lads on Friday evening at the Stadium of Light – and so can you!

The club legend is relishing a return to Wearside and can’t wait to take in the game as a fan, having often found himself in the opposing dugout in recent years.

Goals and Phillips went hand in hand during his scintillating time at the club, and he’s looking forward to seeing Sunderland’s new striker, Will Grigg, in action.

Speaking to the Chronicle, the former Black Cat explained why he's looking forward to being back on home turf.

“I’m looking forward to being there on Friday purely as a Sunderland supporter,” said Phillips

“I’m keeping busy with media work and TV, but ultimately, it’s quite nice to go and watch football matches with no pressure on me.”

He continued: “Once he [Grigg] gets going I believe he will score the goals that will get them promoted.

“He’s just got to score as many as he can, and he will make himself a hero.

“I’d love to see him do it on Friday while I am there. That would be fantastic.”

BLACK CATS BAR

During his return, Phillips will take centre stage in the Black Cats Bar this Friday.
