New partnership: Stadium of Light goes cashless

Sunderland AFC has partnered with Bleep (UK) PLC and Global Payments to deliver new EPOS (electronic point of sale) and card payments solutions at the Stadium of Light, as the venue goes fully cashless ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Bleep will provide electronic point of sales (EPOS) terminals as well as the point of sale (POS) software, complemented by payment technologies and merchant services from Global Payments.

Contactless card payments will be introduced throughout the stadium, providing supporters with a simple and efficient purchase process when buying food, drinks and merchandise inside the stadium.

Ahead of a return to full capacity, the new developments will reduce queueing times and congestion at concourse kiosks, increase the speed of service and improve hygiene, allowing fans to miss less of the action whilst ensuring they have peace of mind at the point of sale.

SAFC is also developing a new MatchDay ordering app, which will allow fans to order food and drinks through their mobile devices from the comfort of their seats, or even on their way to the stadium.

Further information relating to the MatchDay ordering app will be released in due course.

Other recent technological enhancements at the SoL will also allow supporters to enjoy a fully connected experience, with stadium WiFi enabling fans to enjoy a free and stable connection inside the main bowl.

Supporters are advised that cash will no longer be accepted inside the Stadium of Light, however, fans will still be able to purchase match programmes outside the venue using cash.

The Stadium of Light will be cashless from Friday 30 July, as SAFC welcome Hull City to Wearside in their final pre-season friendly ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
