Elton John: All you need to know ahead of your visit

Elton John makes the one and only visit to Sunderland of his long, legendary career on Sunday 19 June, as he takes in the Stadium of Light as part of his Farewell Tour.

Below is everything you need to know ahead of your visit to the Stadium of Light (SoL) for the concert.

How to get to and from the SoL

The SoL is easily accessible by road and public transport. The venue is served by two Tyne & Wear Metro stations and there is ample parking in the city centre, just a short walk from the stadium.

By road

If travelling from NORTH or WEST of the stadium:

From the A19 follow signs for A1231 Sunderland, then yellow signs for Park & Walk – for which the postcode is SR5 3XG.

If travelling from SOUTH of the stadium:

From the A19 follow signs for A1018 Sunderland, then signs for Park & Walk and use city centre car parks. Click here to view car park options.

Metro services

Concert-goers with purple, red or yellow entry tickets should alight at Stadium of Light Metro station. Concert-goers with platinum, blue, green and pink (accessible) entry tickets should alight at St. Peter’s Metro station.

Additional Metro services will run until late from these stations. East Boldon & Heworth stations will offer a Park & Ride option.

By taxi

Pre-concert taxi drop-offs will be located to Wearmouth Street and Monk Street. Please be advised that post-concert pick-ups will be from the city centre only.

There is no public parking available at the Stadium of Light for the Elton John concert, with parking around the venue also extremely restricted.

Residential streets in the vicinity of the stadium will be subject to permit restrictions. Parking enforcement officials will be in operation.

Roads immediately surrounding the stadium will be closed to all traffic on the day and there will be no pick-up or drop-off points on or near the site of the stadium.

The Park & Walk scheme in operation will run from Sunderland Enterprise Park, with the above postcode.
