Ladies Head Coach: Reay looks to Liverpool clash

Mel Reay offered her thoughts as she previewed Saturday’s upcoming game against Liverpool Ladies at Eppleton (KO 7pm).

The SAFC Ladies Head Coach reflected on last week’s draw against Watford and highlighted the preparations for the game on Saturday.

“We were disappointed, but a point is always a good point on the road and Watford had some good chances as well when we’ve watched the game back,” Reay said.

“The girls were in good spirits on Tuesday wanting to get back on the pitch and put right what didn’t go quite so well on Sunday in terms of in front of goal so we had a good session and we’re ready to go again for the rest of the week.

“We need to be a bit more clinical in front of goal in order to take points away from teams who are at the bottom of the table as well.”

Reay offered some insight into the upcoming opponents, Liverpool, who currently sit top of the FA Women’s Championship.

“I think you’ve got to go into every game to try and win it. They’ve had a fantastic run of form and they’re at the top of the league for a reason. It’s going to be tough, and we’ll have to be well-disciplined and keep the ball when we have it and making sure to do good things with it and put on a good show for all the fans.

“Every game’s different and every game throws us different challenges. You want to be better than you were in the last game and that’s the challenge that’s been laid out to the players.

“We’re still relatively new in where the new team in the division with a very young squad that we’ve got but they’re hungry to learn and we’ve got our goals and objectives and we’re on track.”

Finally, the Lasses’ gaffer also offered some team news ahead of Saturday’s game.

“Abbey Joice has recovered so she’ll come back in the squad, along with Maria Farrugia who’ll also feature on Saturday night as well.

“We’ve had a bit of illness in camp but everyone is fit and raring to go for Saturday.”
