Sunderland Ladies begin their Continental Tyres Cup campaign on Thursday evening, taking on Sheffield United Women at Chesterfield's Technique Stadium (7:30pm).
The Lasses will aim to get off to a positive start in the group stage of the competition, and to bounce back from recent successive defeats against Bristol City and Durham.
Mel Reay is able to call upon the large majority of what is now a 20-player first-team squad, though Charlotte Potts was withdrawn due to injury in Sunday's Durham contest at Eppleton.
Sunderland recently met the Blades in pre-season, going down 2-0 at Sheffield United's Academy.
This season is the 11th in which the Continental Cup has been played, representing the League Cup in the highest women's leagues. Only three clubs have ever lifted the trophy, with Arsenal triumphant on five occasions, Manchester City winning three cups and Chelsea lifting it twice - including last season via a 6-0 rout of Bristol City in the final.
A young Lasses squad will aim to solidify some already encouraging progress, by securing passage through the group stage which also contains Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa and Liverpool.
