Jack Ross was left delighted to see Duncan Watmore return to action at the Stadium of Light this evening.

The 24-year-old made his long-awaited return to first-team action, 13 months after suffering his second ACL injury.

Watmore was full of life throughout the 66 minutes of action, helping to break the deadlock in the first 45 as his effort was parried by the Notts County stopper and off the helpless Dan Jones.

Benji Kimpioka’s introduction for Watmore then sparked another burst of life into Sunderland. His storming run blew County apart before he was knocked to the deck inside the area, with Jerome Sinclair firing home the resultant penalty.
