Jack Ross reviewed a frustrating night on Wearside as Sunderland exited the Emirates FA Cup to Walsall.
Liam Kinsella scored the game’s only goal in the second 45 when he lashed home a rocket, leaving stopper Jon McLaughlin with little chance of stopping it.
Sunderland fought back and almost levelled when Duncan Watmore’s curled effort from the edge of the box was flicked wide by the head of Russell Martin.
And then, with minutes left on the clock, Bryan Oviedo’s free-kick from the right was put wide by Chris Maguire as he darted in at the back stick.
