Team news: Ejaria expected to miss out

Sunderland expect to be without Liverpool loanee Ovie Ejaria when they host Brentford on Saturday, but Jonny Williams is in contention to return.

Ejaria has featured prominently since arriving from Anfield on deadline day, with the 21-year-old lining up against Ipswich Town before starting at Ashton Gate in a six-goal thriller against Bristol City.

His absence is somewhat softened by the return of Jonny Williams who has registered plenty of minutes for the club’s under-23s in recent weeks, but the Black Cats will once again be without Lamine Kone and Paddy McNair.

Speaking to safc.com, the Sunderland boss provided the latest team news from within the Camp.

“It looks like we’ll lose Ovie Ejaria,” revealed Coleman.

“He pulled up in training on Wednesday so he’s very doubtful unfortunately but we’ll have Jonny Williams back and in contention.”

He continued: “Adam Matthews has had a good weeks training and so has Callum McManaman.

“Paddy McNair is going to play today for the under-23s because he just needed more minutes, but if comes through that fine, he’ll be back in contention for Tuesday night.

“Lamine has had one session with us and he came through it okay, but we just think Saturday is a little bit early for him and next week should be okay.

“The numbers are probably the best since I’ve been here.”
