Team news: Scowen awaits scan results

Lee Johnson is awaiting an update on Josh Scowen’s fitness ahead of Tuesday’s game, but Aiden O’Brien is back in contention after returning to training following an ankle injury.

Scowen was substituted during the second period of Sunderland’s 4-0 victory at Lincoln City after suffering discomfort in his shin, with the results of a scan yet to be determined.

Elsewhere, Morgan Feeney played 45 minutes in the Under-23s’ win over Norwich City on Monday, with Arbenit Xhemajli and Denver Hume still sidelined.

Speaking ahead of the midweek clash, the Head Coach provided the latest from the treatment room.

“He needed an x-ray this morning [Monday] so we're just waiting for the results of that and the breakdown from the specialist,” Johnson explained.

“I think it could go either way, to be honest. It could be one where he's out for three or four weeks, or he could be fit for the Wimbledon game. Hopefully we get the best-case scenario.”

He continued: “Aiden is closer than Lynden.

“Both are out working with the physios. Aiden is training with us today [Monday] so should be available for selection.

“We'll have to assess the walking wounded, the little knocks and niggles that you get in any game.

“It's going to be very difficult for me to pick a team today, so I'll be working on the principles of how I believe is the best way to break Wimbledon down and defend against their strengths, but we'll have to be a bit fluid in terms of the team.”
