Extension and loan: Embleton seals Blackpool loan

Elliot Embleton’s contract has been extended until June 2022 and the midfielder will spend the remainder of the 2020-21 season on loan at Blackpool.

Ahead of the midfielder’s deadline-day move to Bloomfield Road, Sunderland AFC exercised a one-year option in the midfielder’s contract.

The 21-year-old has made 12 appearances for the Black Cats during the current campaign and will now seek to gain further senior experience in Sky Bet League One with Neil Critchley’s side.

Embleton enjoyed a successful loan spell with Grimsby Town during the 2018-19 campaign, turning out 30 times for the Mariners and scoring four goals.

Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman said: “Elliot requires a little more opportunity than we can provide at this moment and it’s an important period for him following the time he missed through injury. We have a clear plan for his progression and felt that under Neil, Blackpool was a great chance for him to gain more experience at this level in a different environment. We’ve taken the option on his contract for next season and we are all aligned on what he needs to do in the period leading up to the summer. He’s really excited about the challenge and we look forward to supporting him from afar.”

All at SAFC wish Elliot the best of luck during his loan spell at Bloomfield Road.
