Preview: Lads head to Bristol City

Sunderland’s first league away trip of the season takes place on Saturday when the Lads travel to Bristol City (KO 3pm).

The Lads head to Ashton Gate looking to build on last week’s opening-day draw against Coventry City.

Team news

Alex Neil should have a full squad available to pick from, with Niall Huggins the only long-term player sidelined.

Latest summer signing Ellis Simms could be in line for his first minutes in red and white after being named amongst the substitutes last week.

Opposition

Bristol City suffered defeat at Hull City on the opening day, with Jean Michaël Seri scoring a 90th-minute winner for the Tigers.

Nigel Pearson’s side have former SAFC loanee Antoine Semenyo in their ranks, with last season’s top goalscorer Andreas Weimann already off the mark this campaign.

Sunderland’s last meeting with the Robins was back in 2018, as the Lads came from 3-0 down at half time to somehow claim a point in the South West.
