Loan departure: Ellis Taylor joins Hartlepool

Sunderland AFC can confirm that Ellis Taylor has joined Hartlepool United on a season-long loan.

The versatile winger, who can also operate at full back, was a part of SAFC’s senior squad during pre-season and he featured on several occasions for Alex Neil’s side.

After signing his first professional contract in June 2021, the Hartlepool-born youngster went on to make four first-team appearances during the 2021-22 campaign.

Taylor links up with Paul Hartley’s squad ahead of Pools’ Sky Bet League Two opener against Walsall on Saturday afternoon.

Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman said: “We placed Ellis in our first-team squad last season to allow him to understand the environment and mature physically. This has provided him with a foundation to now impact a senior team in the Football League and throughout pre-season, we have seen that he has the capabilities to do that. This is a brilliant opportunity for him – and the locality of the move will also ensure that we can continue to support him throughout the upcoming campaign and develop a relationship with a local team.”

All at SAFC wish Ellis the best of luck during his time at Victoria Park.
