Report: Sunderland AFC 1-1 RCD Mallorca

Sunderland AFC 1-1 RCD Mallorca

Supporters returned to the Stadium of Light for the first time since May to witness a 1-1 draw against RCD Mallorca in pre-season.

Hemir opened the scoring on Wearside with just four minutes played, a headed finish gave Tony Mowbray’s side an early lead.

Vedat Muriqi nodded past Patterson early into the second half to give Mallorca their equaliser.

Just four minutes in, a short corner routine resulted in a whipped ball across from Patrick Roberts which was met by the head of Hemir for his first home goal.

Mallorca registered their first chance of the game after 24 minutes when a curling effort from Javi Llabres went high and wide. This was quickly followed up by a Jack Clarke free-kick straight into the arms of the goalkeeper.

The Spanish side’s best opportunity came five minutes before the break as Dani Rodriguez headed over from close-range.

The visitors levelled two minutes after the restart. An attack down the right-hand side led to a deep cross into the area and Vedat Muriqi directed his header past Patterson.

Mallorca were reduced to 10 men three minutes from time as a strong challenge from Pablo Maffeo on Luke O’Nein resulted in the referee showing a straight red card.

Trai Hume went close with a long-range effort, but it remained 1-1 and more minutes in the tank for the Lads.

Sunderland AFC: Patterson, Hume, Ballard (Triantis 62), O’Nien, Cirkin (Huggins 72), Neil, Ekwah, Roberts (Bennette 72), Jobe (Rigg 62), Clarke (Lihadji 72), Hemir (Ba 62)
