In Focus: Get to know Callum Styles

Callum Styles has completed his loan move to Wearside from Barnsley and becomes our third signing of the January transfer window.

Get to know our newest addition as we go in-focus into his career.

  • Callum John Styles was born in Bury on 28 March 2000.
  • Having come through the youth ranks at Burnley, Styles joined League One side Bury in 2016 on a permanent basis.
  • Styles made history by becoming the first player born in this millennium to play a professional game in the English Football League. He came on as a second-half substitute in a 3-2 win over Southend aged 16 years and 41 days.
  • Barnsley swooped in for his signature in 2018 and loaned him back to Bury for their League Two 18/19 campaign.
  • Styles is eligible to play for Hungary through his grandparents and made his debut for the national team in a friendly against Serbia in 2022.
  • The 23-year-old has gone on to make 18 appearances for the senior side which included a starting place in a 4-0 friendly victory over England.
  • He is set to represent his nation in next year’s Euro 2024 competition after winning their qualification group with an unbeaten record of five wins and three draws.
  • Styles spent last season on loan at Championship level with Millwall making 22 appearances and scoring one goal as the Lions just missed out on a Play-Off spot finishing in eighth.
  • After over 200 appearances in professional football at the age of 23, Styles becomes the third signing of the January transfer window.
