Women Report: SAFC Women 3-0 Nottingham Forest Women

SAFC Women 3-0 Nottingham Forest Women

SAFC Women secured their fourth and final win of pre-season as they beat Nottingham Forest Women at Eppleton in front of over 1,000 supporters.

Grace McCatty’s 24th minute goal ensured the Lasses had a lead going into the second half.

Louise Griffiths and Katy Watson scored in the second half to win the game and maintain their flawless pre-season record.

The first chance of the game fell to the visitors in the 14th minute from a corner, but their chance was headed over the bar.

Mel Reay’s side took the lead as the ball found its way into the box, with McCatty in space to pick her spot and finish her chance into the bottom corner.

Minutes later, Emma Kelly fired a fantastic strike from range which almost found the top corner, but just went over.

The Lasses dictated the game in the second half, and Grace Ede’s expert through ball found the feet of Tyler Dodds, but her shot was saved by the goalkeeper.

Griffiths doubled Sunderland’s lead in the 64th minute, meeting a cross at the back post with a bullet header into the far corner.

The Lasses made it three late on as Watson was played through the middle, but with a lot of work still to do, the striker used her pace to break through the defence before calmly slotting her effort past the ‘keeper.

With the curtain closed on pre-season, preparations turn to the Lasses’ first league game of the campaign – the Wear Derby against Durham Women at Maiden Castle next Sunday.
