Report: Lasses make it three wins from three

Sunderland Women made it three wins from three in pre-season so far with a victory over Hibernian Women at the Academy of Light.

Nicki Gears scored the opener in the 26th minute and Hibernian equalised in the 42nd.

Gears doubled her tally on her debut right before half time, with Grace Ede grabbing Sunderland’s third in the 46th minute.

Mel Reay’s side had the first opportunity of the game as Tyler Dodds broke down the right wing, crossing to Emily Scarr whose shot was headed away from goal.

Dodds threatened again with her shot being saved by the goalkeeper, but this time Gears was in the right place to tap in the rebound.

Ramshaw nearly doubled the Lasses’ lead as Dodds’ corner found the feet of the captain, who created space for herself and shot just past the post.

Hibernian levelled the game with a tidy finish, but the Lasses responded well from a corner, with Megan Beer’s cross finding Gears who headed home her second of the game.

After being brought on at half-time, Ede impacted the game in swift fashion, calmly slotting away her first chance one minute into the second half – her second in pre-season so far.

Katy Watson was slotted through on goal later into the half, firing a shot towards goal, but couldn’t convert as the Lasses claimed another pre-season win.
