Women Report: Manchester City Women 3-0 SAFC Women

Manchester City Women 3-0 SAFC Women

Sunderland Women were beaten in the Conti Cup by WSL side Manchester City Women at the Academy Stadium.

Julie Blakstad, Hayley Raso and Khadija Shaw were the scorers for the home side.

Manchester City scored eight minutes in as Raso’s low cross was tapped in by Blakstad.

The Lasses held strong for the remainder of the first half, holding strong to deny the hosts another way through.

Mel Reay’s side enjoyed a good spell mid-way through the half. Brianna Westrup met a corner with a header that went just wide of the far post.

Raso was a threat throughout and scored three minutes into the second half, calmly slotting her chance into the net.

Shaw scored the third goal 58 minutes in to seal the result for the home side.

Claudia Moan was called into action in the latter stages of the half, making numerous good saves to deny City.

The focus returns to the league for the Lasses as preparations begin for a big clash next weekend – an away game against Coventry United.
