For Our Girls: New women's football community initiative

SAFC Women are pleased to announce a new community initiative, For Our Girls, has been launched alongside local representatives.

A monthly meeting – referred to as the City of Sunderland Women’s Football Forum – began with its inaugural talks on Thursday 6 October between representatives from SAFC Women, SAFC Regional Talent Centre (RTC), University of Sunderland, Foundation of Light and Durham FA.

The group will meet once a month moving forward to discuss collaborations in order to enhance the profile and engagement of women’s football across our city.

The aim of the monthly forum is to further cement the playing and coaching pathway for girls in the local community, as well as to explore commercial, educational and employment opportunities.

The Lasses’ next first-team home fixture, against London City Lionesses at Eppleton on Sunday 23 October, will see representatives from each group in attendance – and will be presented onto the pitch during the half-time interval.

The initiative will also be bolstered by reduced ticket prices for the match for both children and students, with entry priced at just £1.
