Preview: Lasses travel to Blackburn in Conti Cup

Sunderland Women are back in action on Wednesday in the Conti Cup as they travel to Bamber Bridge to take on Blackburn Ladies (KO 7:45pm).

After a thrilling comeback to beat Durham Women 3-2 in the league on Sunday, the Lasses are hoping for more of the same as the busy January schedule continues.

Team news

Liz Ejupi is cup-tied and is ineligible to feature in the game. Abbey Joice and Tyler Dodds are both unavailable.

Long-term absentees Keira Ramshaw, Abby Towers, Emily Hutchinson and Faye Mullen all still miss out.

Opposition

Both sides are still looking for their first point in the competition and with fate sealed in the competition already – neither side can qualify from the group – the match offers the chance for both sides to build momentum.

Sunderland made the trip down to Bamber Bridge just last week for their third-round FA Cup tie, with the Lasses advancing to the fourth round with a 1-0 victory – Neve Herron scoring a 61st minute winner.

In the league, Rovers have 12 points from 10 games – two points ahead of the Lasses – and are sitting in eighth in the division.
