Sunderland AFC Women is delighted to announce the signing of Ellen Jones on a professional contract.
Jones started out with Bristol City in the Women’s Super League, making her debut in 2020 before moving to the University of Colorado, representing Colorado Buffaloes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 in 2021.
The 20-year-old later moved to Leicester City, and played the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan with Rugby Borough Women, formerly Coventry United.
The former Leicester player has also played for both England and Wales at youth level, and was included in the Wales senior squad in April.
After a successful trial period on Wearside, including game time in the Lasses' first pre-season friendly against Celtic Women, the young forward has signed permanently for the Black Cats.
Sunderland Women Head Coach Mel Reay said: “Ellen spent a week with us leading into the Celtic game and showed us what she is all about. She can play off both feet, has a good engine, a tenacious work ethic and an impressive attitude to learn. She will add further depth to our attacking options.”
