Sunderland Women are back on the road this weekend in the Barclays Women’s Championship as they play Charlton Athletic Women at the Valley (KO 12noon).
The Lasses are looking to get back to winning ways following defeat against Blackburn Rovers Women at Eppleton last weekend, ending their unbeaten start to the season.
Team news
There were no fresh injury updates from Head Coach Mel Reay in her pre-match press conference with the media.
Opposition
Charlton moved to the top of the league last week following a 2-0 victory over Southampton at St. Mary’s, with an own goal from Saints goalkeeper Kayla Rendell and a stoppage-time strike from Melissa Johnson earning the team the three points.
The Addicks are level on points and goal difference with the Black Cats and claim the top spot only by scoring two more than Sunderland.
Following a slow start to the campaign, Karen Hills’ side have 19 points from the last seven games, keeping five clean sheets during this time.
The last meeting between the two sides ended in a 2-2 draw at the Oakwood, with a Johnson doubled cancelled out by a goal from Jessica Brown and a 93rd-minute equaliser from Grace McCatty.
