SAFC Women: Katy Watson signs new deal

Sunderland AFC Women is pleased to announce that Katy Watson has signed a new contract with the Club.

The 18-year-old will finish her education this year and will then move into a full-time model next season on a professional contract.

Watson has already made 39 appearances in Red & White, scoring crucial goals for the team, including a late winner in last season’s River Wear Derby against Durham Women at Eppleton.

The young forward has also represented England’s Under-19 squad, scoring earlier in the week for the young Lionesses against Greece U19.

On signing her new deal, Katy Watson said: “I’m over the moon to sign my first professional contract with the Club and I can’t wait to continue my journey and my development here.”

Sunderland Women Head Coach Mel Reay said: “I am delighted Katy has signed her first professional contract with the club. She is a player who has been with us since she was nine years old and it’s important that she sees her future here. Katy is an exciting forward who is still learning her trade but has already made a positive contribution to the first team. It is a pleasure to work with her and I am excited to help Katy develop as a player and realise what could be enormous potential.”
