Internationals: Lads head out on summer duty

With the summer schedule in full swing, several members of our Mens' first-team squad will compete in international action ahead of the return of the pre-season training schedule.

Here is a breakdown of which players will be representing their country this week...

Dan Ballard and Trai Hume – Northern Ireland

Ballard and Hume look set to add to their ever-growing international credentials after another call-up to the Northern Ireland squad.

Michael O’Neill’s side take part in friendly games, firstly against Spain on Saturday 8 June in Palma de Mallorca. The squad will remain in Spain until Tuesday when they come up against Andorra.

Ballard has 22 caps for his country while Hume’s presence in the squad continues to grow with 12 appearances for the senior side.

Jobe – England Elite Men’s Squad

After his recent call-up to England’s Elite Men’s Squad (formerly U20s), Jobe links up with Ben Futcher’s squad for the first time this week ahead of two friendly games.

The Young Lions will travel to Croatia this Friday to face Sweden before heading to Montengro to take on the Republic of Ireland on the following Tuesday.

Jobe has featured for England Under-19s throughout last season making five appearances but looks set to feature for the Under-20s, now the Elite Men’s Squad, for the first time.

Leo Hjelde – Norway Under-21s

With 17 caps to his name for the Under-21s, Hjelde has once again received the call-up to represent his country at youth level.

After making 11 appearances for the Lads since joining in January earlier this year, Hjelde will gain further international experience before the return of the first-team squad for pre-season training.

Norway will face Denmark in an international friendly in later this week.

Meanwhile, Chris Rigg's time at the England at the European Under-17 Championships came to an end this week.

After a 1-1 draw with Italy after 90 minutes, the Young Lions suffered defeat on penalties at the quarter-final stage losing 5-4 to Italy.
